Jeepers. It was a week ago that we took off for western Newfoundland with gear, band members, a friend, and a convoy of travelers heading out to enjoy the party that was the EMCAs. This time last week we were stopping at the Clarenville Irving for our first road break.

I can’t say the weekend was anything less than spectacular.

Some highlights:

- watching national celebs get rambunctious in the wee hours at a crowded bar
- attending Tom Jackson’s performance seminar and being brought to my feet by what he was able to do to Nudie and the Turks in an hour and a half
- an incredibly fine meeting with Ariel Hyatt of CyberPR (it seems that half of St. John’s joined twitter between Friday and Monday last week)
- being escorted to our late night destination by the Corner Brook cops
- Pink Thunder
- Carmen Townsend at the Barroom
- Jack, Kirk and Alison’s set at the Cycle Shop
- my first awards gala (listening to Ruby riff on just about everything that was happening around us – she was on her game)
- late night hotel shenanigans involving one of the most unassuming joke deliveries I’ve ever heard

But the highlight HAS to be 3:00 on Monday morning in the lobby of the Glynmill Inn sitting, relaxing, and absorbing the elegance of Gordie Sampson’s mother, Flo, playing the piano in her black dress, making Ron Hynes blush, beer flowing throughout the room, casual conversation, and sing-along after sing-along. It was a perfect culmination of the week.

I’ll post more details as the come to mind but that’s it for now! Feel free to add any of your own stories in the comments.

Cheers,

The Subtitles
