Time to head to the studio (Great Big Sea’s Great Big Studio in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to be exact!)
This weekend we’ll start our first full-length album, after three EPS, most recently,Tres, which you can hear at our myspace page.
We’re incredibly excited to be working with the always choosy, sometimes cheeky, Mark Neary, of the Novaks.
I can’t reveal the entire track listing for the album, but I can say that this weekend, we’ll start with Mountain (check out the video here), a song we’ve played live for some time, but never properly recorded.
First at bat is the intrepid Bryan Power aka Poppy. He’ll have the somewhat unenviable task of pounding out perfect drum tracks for the rest of us to dress up later.
Not to complain though. A solid rhythm track is the basis for a great song, and that, my friends, is what we live for.
Saturday night The Subtitles are sharing that stage at the Dock (on George St.) with Newfoundland’s ska/reggae army, Idlers.
It’s a benefit for the band as they are heading to Woodstock, New York in a few weeks to record their second full length album with Daryl Jenifer of the legendary Bad Brains.
I suggest coming early and staying late because these shows tend to be sweaty, boozy and packed with the most ridiculous sort of dancers and madmen.
Show time is 10ish – cover is probably about the same.
Only a month away and the fun of going to Corner Brook for a weekend to drown in music, musicians and the characters they attract is already taking a good portion of my thinkings.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be writing about what’s going on:
For every showcase there’s a no case:
The team at Mighypop (responsible for bringing in some of the most ridiculously good acts Town has seen in ages) have put together a brilliant 4 days/nights of music including bands such as Matt Mays, The Superfantastics, The Pathological Lovers, Idlers, The Subtitles (!!!!), Sleepless Nights, Sherman Downey… I’ll just post the schedule:
